Scar Therapy in Bristol
Specialist support for C-section scars, surgical scars & postnatal recovery
A scar may be small on the surface, but its influence can extend far beyond the visible line.
After a C-section or other abdominal surgery, the body has gone through a significant process of healing. As the scar forms, the surrounding tissues can change in how they move, glide and respond. You may notice pulling, tightness, sensitivity, numbness or discomfort around the scar, or simply feel that your body doesn't quite move as freely as it once did.
Scar therapy offers a gentle way to reconnect with this area of your body and support its natural movement and recovery.
I offer specialist surgical scar therapy in Bristol, with a particular focus on C-section scars, caesarean scars and postnatal recovery. My approach is gentle, precise and tailored to you, your scar and your stage of recovery.

C-section scar therapy in Bristol
Having a C-section is both a major physical event and a significant life transition.
Once your scar has fully healed, specialist scar therapy can help you understand and work with the changes that have taken place in the tissues around it.
Your scar may feel:
-
Tight or restricted
-
Numb or unusually sensitive
-
Tender or uncomfortable
-
Pulling when you stretch or move
-
Different from the surrounding skin
-
Attached or less mobile than the surrounding tissue
-
Difficult to look at or connect with emotionally
You may also notice changes in how your abdomen, pelvis or lower back feels and moves.
Your scar doesn't have to be painful for it to deserve attention.
Scar therapy is not about forcing, breaking down or aggressively manipulating scar tissue. Instead, I use gentle, considered techniques to work with the scar and surrounding tissues, encouraging greater awareness, mobility and ease.
Supporting your postnatal recovery
Your body continues to adapt long after your baby is born.
Pregnancy, birth and a C-section can affect your posture, breathing, abdominal wall, pelvis and patterns of movement. The scar itself is only one part of this larger picture.
This is why I take a whole-body approach to postnatal recovery.
Rather than focusing exclusively on the visible scar, I consider how it relates to the surrounding tissues and your overall movement.
Our work may therefore include attention to:
Scar tissue · abdomen · pelvis · diaphragm · breathing · posture · fascia · movement
The aim is to help you develop a more comfortable relationship with your body as it changes and heals.
Why does scar therapy matter?
Scar tissue is different from the original tissue that was there before surgery. As the body repairs an area, the organisation and behaviour of the tissues can change.
Because the body is interconnected, a scar can be considered as part of a wider network of tissues rather than an isolated line on the skin.
The fascial system, in particular, connects structures throughout the body. Changes in one area may therefore influence how movement and tension are experienced elsewhere.
This doesn't mean that every pain or restriction is caused by a scar. Scar therapy is not a treatment for every post-operative symptom, and persistent or unexplained symptoms should always be assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional.
Instead, scar therapy provides an opportunity to gently explore the relationship between your scar, your movement and how your body feels.
There is no standard way to experience a scar.
Some women feel disconnected from their scar. Others are frustrated by tightness or changes in sensation. Some simply want to feel more comfortable touching and moving the area again.
I take the time to understand your experience, rather than treating the scar as a purely physical structure.
Your session begins with a conversation about your history, your recovery and what you would like support with.
Treatment is then adapted to your comfort and to the condition of your scar.
There is no rushing and no aggressive manipulation.
My approach combines my experience as a Bowen Therapist and manual therapist, specialist scar-therapy training and my understanding of fascia, movement and the relationship between the body and nervous system.
Scar recovery is more than the appearance of a scar
It is natural to think about scar treatment primarily in terms of how a scar looks.
But recovery can be about much more than appearance.
You may want to:
Move more freely.
Feel more comfortable in your body.
Reduce the feeling of restriction.
Reconnect with an area you have avoided touching.
Understand your scar better.
Feel more confident during movement.
Support your body as you recover from surgery.
For many women, caring for a scar can also become a way of reconnecting with the body after a major physical experience.
There is no right way to feel about your scar. This is your body, your history and your recovery.
C-section scar therapy: when can I start?
Scar therapy should only begin once the scar is fully healed and there are no open areas, scabs or signs of infection.
The appropriate timing can vary depending on your surgery and individual recovery. If you are unsure whether your scar is ready to be treated, or you are experiencing ongoing pain, swelling, redness, discharge or other concerning symptoms, please speak with your GP, midwife, surgeon or other appropriate healthcare professional before booking.
Scar therapy complements medical care; it does not replace it.
You do not need to have a new scar to benefit from specialist scar work. Older scars can also be explored, depending on your individual circumstances.
A C-section scar can carry a lot of meaning.
It may remind you of your pregnancy, your birth experience, a difficult period, a life-changing moment or simply the fact that your body has been through something significant.
Whatever your relationship with your scar, you don't have to love it.
You can simply begin by becoming curious about it.
Scar therapy is an invitation to reconnect with your body — gently, respectfully and at your own pace.
